Oral medicines used in some blood cancers and GIST

Some specialist tablets are used for blood cancers or gastrointestinal stromal tumours, often called GIST. These conditions are different, so the medicine name and diagnosis need to stay together.

This page helps patients and caregivers understand a prescription. It is not medical advice and does not recommend a treatment.

In simple terms

A medicine name alone is not enough to identify the intended treatment. Keep the current prescription, diagnosis and treating-team contact details together before asking for information.

Useful questions for the treating team

  • Is the diagnosis a blood cancer, GIST or another condition?
  • Which medicine name, strength and treatment instructions are current?
  • Does the treating team need any blood tests or monitoring before the next supply decision?
